After receiving the Award of the Governor of the Pilsen Region in the Building of the Year of the Pilsen Region 2014 competition, the Plzeň complex has received another professional recognition. The successful reconstruction of the former monastery farm buildings and the brewery received prestigious recognition, namely selection for the annual Czech Architecture 2014 – 2015. The premises of the Centre of Building Heritage in Plasy, opened in 2015, was thus among the 32 best architectural realizations in our territory, the selection of which was entrusted to architect Jitka Ressová. The yearbook regularly informs not only the professional but also the general public about the current situation in the field, serves as an overview of the current architectural scene and provides stimuli for inspiration and public discussion. The presentation of the yearbook took place at the Centre of Building Heritage Plasy on Saturday 16 April 2016.
Jitka Ressová on the selection of CSD Plasy in the yearbook adds: “The huge premises of the former brewery have found an amazing fulfilment. Thanks to its vastness, it is possible to install many models or building elements in 1:1 scale. This creates a great 3D textbook of design, construction elements, details and technology. The monastery can thus once again become a place of pilgrims who come here from afar for something special and for education. The building has undergone quality restoration and some of its structures have become exhibits.”
The exemplary project of the monument restoration of the former monastery’s farm buildings gave rise to an extensive Exposition of Architecture, which is unique in its focus and scope not only in the Czech Republic. The complex also provides space for presentation workshops of traditional building crafts and provides facilities for conferences and educational events.
The restoration of the historically valuable site took five years from the inception of the project for the construction of the first phase in 2010 to the completion of the exhibitions. The first stage was the responsibility of the Project Studio for Architecture and Civil Engineering, the second stage was the work of Masák & Partner and Metroprojekt, the author of the project of the expositions is Tomáš Bílek (tbi.architekti).
