The NTM Plasy Centre for Building Heritage will present at the Roofs Prague trade fair part of its exhibition of building heritage, focusing mainly on roof trusses and roofing, including related traditional craftsmanship. The exhibition will also include thematic kits and activities for children.
In the presentation arena within the Carpenters’ Zone, representatives of the Centre will present the following interesting topics:
Lukáš Hejný:
Roofs and their coverings in the collections of the National Technical Museum
The presentation by the Curator of the Architecture and Construction Collection and Head of the Collections Department of the NTM Museum of Architecture and Construction will give an insight into the wealth of museum exhibits related to roof construction. Since 2015, selected collection items have been presented in a permanent exhibition at the NTM Plasy Building Heritage Centre.
Pavel Kodera:
Transfer of a Baroque roof truss from the liquidated Podmokly yard for the NTM Plasy Building Heritage Centre
The presentation of the head of the Centre of Building Heritage of NTM Plasy will present an interesting event in which a Baroque roof truss from a demolished farm yard was acquired for the museum during the summer of 2011. The truss was subsequently reinstalled on the restored building on the grounds of the former Plasy monastery, where it now – in addition to its basic function as a roof structure – also serves as an educational exhibit.
Petr Růžička:
The splendour and misery of the carpentry trade
The well-known master carpenter, author of a number of replicas of medieval building machines and an experienced “experimenter of traditional craftsmanship” will reflect on the state and prospects of handicraft today in his lecture. The rigorous practice of manual craft may strike some as unnecessarily traditionalist, but the practice reveals deeper philosophical and economic implications that can provide welcome inspiration for today.
