The unique Romanesque portal of the Cistercian convent church in Plasy was found in 2005 and fully revealed in 2019. The relief tympanum in particular represents an exceptional work with symbolic content, which can be classified among the very rare monuments of early monastic architecture. Recent reflections put the symbolism of the portal in relation to the visions of St Bernard of Clairvaux, medieval thinker and patron of the Cistercian Order.
The conference will focus on the art-historical significance of the portal, its restoration, conservation and the way it is presented. Contributions have been promised by experts from academic departments, scientific institutions and the field of conservation. The event will also include an on-site tour of the monument.
