On the first Sunday of December, the first Sunday of Advent, the National Technical Museum in the Abbey Stables of the NTM Plasy Building Heritage Centre offers all people of good will the opportunity for Advent creation, well-being and time with friends. Everyone can come to the workshop filled with the smell of wood to create their own angel.
This material was chosen because wood and woodwork will be one of the main motifs that visitors will encounter in the NTM Plasy Building Heritage Centre next year. “Since the beginning of the museum’s operation four years ago, we have been trying not to stick to static examples when presenting individual themes. We also want to add a new exhibition dedicated to the construction joinery to the opportunity to learn about the craft in the workshops, to try out skills that do not belong only to the museum,” says Karel Ksandr, the NTM’s general director, revealing his plans for next year.
“Create your own angel. The beauty hidden in the wood is waiting to be awakened,” invites visitors to the Advent workshop by museum educator Kristýna Koderová. In her programmes, she always tries to help visitors, whether they are children or adults, to discover the world around them with new eyes. “A piece of twisted wood, an old wire, lines, materials, … imagination and a little bit of art. We try to offer visitors the opportunity to create something unique, to break away from the usual templates.” For some, the result is important, for others the process of creation, for others (especially children) the opportunity to try out “ordinary” tools such as a saw, axe, hammer, drill… Skilled hands willing to help will of course be on hand. The beauty and originality of each product is guaranteed!
The afternoon workshop will be followed by an Advent concert by the Sagitta choir from Plasz at 5 pm in the Santini Hall. The songs promised are truly Advent songs.
