On Saturday, 8 September 2018, the National Technical Museum will join the European Heritage Days, which are held annually in September, and will open three buildings – the main museum building in Letná, the Centre for Building Heritage in Plasy and the Railway Depository in Chomutov – for free to visitors. The NTM is also joining the celebrations of the Harvest Festival in Letná.
The European Heritage Days aim to bring the national cultural heritage closer to the general public. The National Technical Museum, which presents valuable documents of our technical history and present in its exhibitions and displays, traditionally joins them.
In the main building of the National Technical Museum at Letná, visitors can see 16 permanent exhibitions and several exhibitions, such as the exhibition dedicated to the history of cycling called “The Favorit Phenomenon.” Free guided tours of the museum will be held every hour. For younger visitors, there is a popular Kids’ Lab chemistry lab. Admission to the Coal and Ore Mine exhibit remains subject to a fee.

TheNTM Plasy Building Heritage Centre is located in the newly renovated farm area of the heritage-listed monastery. It is possible to visit the permanent Exposition of Building Heritage, where the building history, the building playground and three exhibitions are presented in an attractive way according to the different stages of the building construction. There will be guided tours of the Court of Building Crafts with the programme “How Master Ondřej came to the mason’s spoon” and guided tours of the Exposition of Building and Historical Research.

In the NTM Railway Depository in Chomutov, those interested in railway history can see a large part of the largest state railway collection in the country – about 100 rolling stock. The NTM and its partners have prepared public rides of the M 124.001 Komarek steam locomotive for 8 September 2018. Car capacity is limited, tickets are sold only at the door.
