The National Technical Museum has prepared special programmes for families with children for the summer months at the Centre of Building Heritage in Plasy and the Railway Depository in Chomutov. In Plasy there will be holiday workshops with mosaic making and practical demonstrations of building crafts, in the Railway Depository in Chomutov it will be possible to experience a ride on the historic Komarek steam carriage. Guided tours of the exhibition Made in Czechoslovakia or Industry that Conquered the World are taking place in the NTM building in Prague Letná.
Children can make and take home a mosaic picture with various accessories in the holiday workshop in the Abbey Stables at the CSD Plasy. Under the guidance of tutors, they will also try their hand at working in the carpentry mini-workshop. In the building crafts yard, young and old will learn how to work on historical machines and make a mason’s spoon. For the more demanding visitors, guided tours of the Exposition of Building History Research are prepared. There will be a varied programme for the Plaska Fair and the European Heritage Days. In both cases, the accompanying programme will be linked to the theme of the exhibition Filmmakers Hanzelka and Zikmund. On the Plaska Fair on 18 August 2019, there will be a parade of Tatra cars, and on the European Heritage Days on 6 and 7 September 2019, admission to the programme and the exhibition will be free. The programme will be rich. On Friday, 6 September, it will culminate in a screening of the film “The Century of M. Zikmund”, and on Saturday, 7 September, a workshop on creative photographic techniques is planned. However, families with children will also find entertainment and education in the CSD Plasy on days when the museum does not offer any programme. Younger children can have fun in the Building Playground exhibition, while older children can try out basic static principles and find out how to build a house so that it doesn’t fall down in the newly opened Static Play exhibition.
