On Saturday, 10 September, the Centre of Building Heritage of the National Technical Museum in Plasy will open its Exposition of Building Heritage free of charge to all visitors who want to learn about the cultural and technical heritage of our ancestors. It will participate in the Industrial Footprints 2016/ Monuments of Technology and Industrial Heritage Day event, which is part of the traditional pan-European event European Heritage Days (EHD).
The exhibition of architecture is located in the former brewery building of the Plasz Monastery. Only a few years ago, this building would have fascinated perhaps only Urbex enthusiasts – explorers of modern ruins. The National Technical Museum has managed to not only repair this dilapidated building, but also give it a new lease of life. After a thorough reconstruction, it has placed its Centre of Building Heritage in Plasy and a new, modern Exposition of Building Heritage directly in the brewery building. It guides visitors through practically the entire brewery premises and provides them with an introduction to historical building elements, materials and structures from the foundations and rough construction through surface treatment, types of opening fillings and the relevant technical equipment of the buildings to roof trusses and roofing in a comprehensible and attractive way.
“I had no idea that building could be so interesting…” “When we were here the first time, we didn’t get to see everything. So here we are today for the second time. And we’ll have to come again…” ” I guess I missed my calling, I should have been a builder…” We are pleased with such feedback, as well as with the Construction of the Year Award of the Pilsen Region 2015, which the reconstruction of the complex received.
Although the brewery has lost its original function, the tradition of brewing beer has been restored, in the former lager cellars just opposite the Exposition of Construction.
